Mississippi State University (MSU) researchers now have expanded opportunities to publish open-access articles, thanks to a new agreement between Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) Libraries and Elsevier. This collaboration supports open-access publishing by allowing MSU corresponding authors to publish their work in Elsevier’s hybrid journals without incurring individual article publishing charges (APCs).
“This agreement is a significant step in supporting our researchers,” said Cathy Austin, Interim Director for Collection Management & Strategy. “It enables MSU authors to share their findings widely, ensuring greater visibility and impact in their respective fields.”
The agreement includes a cap of 141 APCs for MSU authors in 2025. However, this cap will increase by 3% annually throughout the agreement’s duration, which is set to run through 2028.
Open-access publishing with Elsevier offers several key benefits, including the flexibility to choose from hybrid journals across all scientific disciplines, comprehensive support throughout the publishing process, and enhanced visibility with articles published on ScienceDirect, one of the world’s leading research platforms.
In addition to this agreement with Elsevier, MSU Libraries has negotiated similar open-access agreements, often referred to as transformative or "Read and Publish" agreements, with the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM), Cambridge University Press (CUP), and the Company of Biologists. These agreements further expand publishing options for MSU authors and underscore the university’s commitment to open-access research.
