About Carter Family (J.W. and J.D.)
J. W. Carter served as sheriff of Kemper County, Mississippi from at least 1891-1892, but records are incomplete. He was married to Sallie B. Carter, also born in 1860. They had sons Will H (b. 1888), Henry M (b. 1886), John D (b. 1889), and Nuss (b. 1894), as well as a daughter, Ethell (1891). J. W. Carter died in 1949 and is buried in Union United Methodist Cemetery in Kemper County, Mississippi.
J.D. Carter joined the U.S. Army on December 15, 1917 and built roads for the military in France as a 1st Sergeant in the 23rd Engineers, Engineer Wagon Company #4. J.D. married Ms. Lottie Yates and had two girls, Matilda Yates Carter and Lottie Ivy Carter. He died in 1952 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in West Point, Mississippi.
