Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Collection Database Tutorial

The Grant Presidential Collection consists of some 10,000 linear feet of correspondence, research notes, artifacts, photographs, scrapbooks, and memorabilia and includes information on Grant's childhood from his birth in 1822, his later military career, Civil War triumphs, tenure as commanding general after the war, presidency, and his post-White House years until his death in 1885. This video provides a tutorial for searching the database of unpublished Grant materials.

On Friday, January 30, 2009, Mississippi State University Libraries honored the acceptance of the Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Papers with dinner and a program involving the official signing of the acceptance documents.


Walt Grayson's Look Around Mississippi: Who's Buried in Grant's Tomb?

In July 2009, award-winning journalist Walt Grayson visited the Ulysses S. Grant Association at the Mitchell Memorial Library, on the campus of Mississippi State University, to discuss General Grant's legacy in the state of Mississippi. Grayson's "Look Around Mississsippi" segment is broadcast on television stations around the state.


Could the Civil War Have Been Avoided?

One hundred and fifty years after the outbreak of the Civil War, a panel of historians debated whether or not the war could have been avoided. They also responded to questions from members of the audience. Frank Williams moderated. "Could the War Have Been Avoided?" was a Thursday panel at the 15th annual Lincoln Forum, "The Coming of the Civil War: Enter Lincoln, Exit the South," held at the Wyndham Hotel in Gettysburg.
