Services

Reference and referral:

The Special Collections central reference desk staff will retrieve needed materials and answer in-person, telephone and e-mail questions. Specialists are available for complicated questions. The department also has guides to other repositories; staff will refer researchers whenever necessary.

Research consultation:

For those projects that require in-depth assistance, staff are available on an appointment basis. The selection of a staff member for a consultation may depend on the subject or type of materials required. For a consultation appointment, ask at the reference desk or send an inquiry to sp_coll@library.msstate.edu.

Preservation consultation:

Assistance with preservation of books, documents and photographs is available by appointment. The department does not perform conservation work, but catalogs and technical literature are available.

Reproduction services:

Staff will provide physical or digital copies within the constraints of the copyright law, donor restrictions and the condition of materials. Prices vary by type of material and service. A price list is available. There may be a delay in copying certain formats. Researchers may make self-service copies from most microforms at $0.10 per copy.

Tours and workshops:

Tours describing the holdings and services of the Special Collections Department for individual researchers may be requested at the Special Collections central reference desk during all open hours. Tours and workshops for groups and tours for individuals requesting detailed information about divisional services or holdings may be arranged by contacting the Special Collections central reference desk or by contacting Coordinators of the appropriate Divisions.

Exhibits:

Selected Special Collections materials are on exhibit at appropriate times. Questions about displayed items and suggestions for future exhibits are welcome.
