Classroom Space Available at the Library

Overview

Mitchell Memorial Library houses a number of multimedia classrooms, meeting rooms, presentation/seminar spaces and an auditorium. These rooms are used by the library faculty and staff for workshops, seminars, classroom instruction as well as special events and meetings, but are also available for use by University faculty and staff, departments and organizations.

These rooms are available for use throughout the year, on a first-come, first-serve basis.

If you are interested in using one of the Library's spaces, you may request a reservation using the online form below, by email (imcrooms@library.msstate.edu), by phone (662-325-7676) or in person. Before making a request, please read through the descriptions of the rooms available below, and choose the one best suited to your needs. Then carefully read the policies governing the room you are interested in. If you have any questions or need help selecting a room, please call the Instructional Media Center at (662) 325-7676.

Faculty requesting instruction from the Library Instructional Services Department or the Instructional Media Center should contact those departments directly prior to requesting a room. Policies

  • Effective June 1, 2011, no food or drink is allowed in the rooms.
  • The rooms are not to be altered unless a specific request is made and approved ahead of time. This includes moving or altering desks, computers, teacher stations, tables or other equipment or furniture.
  • The person responsible for the room must sign in prior to using the room and MUST sign out after they are done using the room.
  • Failure to follow the Libraries' policies and take care of the rooms could result in a patron's privileges being suspended.
  • Room requests must be approved by a staff member, therefore requests for nights and weekends should be made in advance.
  • Specific software is loaded on computers in the various rooms based on licensing agreements. Under special circumstances, the Library will consider loading additional software in its labs, but these requests are handled on a case-by-case basis and a request must be made two weeks in advance.

ELI and Giles Electronic Classrooms

ELI and Giles

ELI and Giles are the two electronic classrooms that faculty, staff and students can reserve to hold lectures and class meetings. Each classroom has 15 computer workstations. You may double up and sit two students per computer, for a total of 30. If you have a larger class, the two rooms can be combined to accommodate up to 60 students or 30 if each needs his or her own computer. The Giles classroom is equipped with a state-of-the-art lectern that houses an ELMO projector, VCR, computer, wireless keyboard and mouse etc.

Specific Room Usage Policies for ELI and Giles Electronic Classrooms
  • For Fall and Spring Semesters
    • No bookings by individuals or groups outside the library except for classroom instruction (between 8-5 Monday-Friday)
    • For classroom instruction requests, the rooms can only be booked 8 times or 15 hours per semester, per class.
    • The rooms can be requested for use at night and on weekend by university employees or students.
  • For Maymester and Summer Sessions
    • There will be no outside requests approved during the first week of each term
    • After the first week, professors or instructors may request the room for instruction only, for no more than 5 times or a total of 10 hours, per class
    • After the first week, a group or individual seeking the room for extended sessions, such as a conference, may request either ELI or Giles for up to one week per session. Requests for both rooms will not be considered. If it is available, the IHL Lab could be used in conjunction with one of the other electronic classrooms.
  • For Intersession
    • All requests by MSU faculty, staff or students will be considered on a first-come, first-serve basis.

IHL Lab

ELI and Giles

The IHL Lab is an electronic classroom that faculty can reserve to hold lectures and class meetings. The room has 24 computer workstations with flat LCD panel monitors and is equipped with a teacher's lectern that houses a computer, CD drive, speakers, wireless keyboard and mouse. The room also includes a data projector and screen.

Specific Room Usage Policies for IHL Lab
  • For Fall and Spring Semesters
    • No bookings by individuals or groups outside the library except for classroom instruction (between 8-5 Monday-Friday)
    • Effective June 1, 2011, for classroom instruction requests, the room can only be booked 8 times or 15 hours per semester, per class.
    • The room can be requested for use at night, but only for classroom instruction.
  • For Maymester and Summer Sessions

The Auditorium

Auditorium

The Auditorium is a large presentation space, equipped with a surround sound audio system, which includes a DVD, VHS VCR, cassette and CD player, a cordless microphone system and a teacher station, which includes a high speed networked computer with a ceiling mounted projection unit. This room comfortably seats 90 individuals.

Specific Room Usage Policies for the Auditorium
  • For Fall and Spring Semesters
    • Effective June 1, 2011, a professor, department or organization may request the room up to 8 times or 15 hours per semester, per class or particular time slot, between 8-5 Monday-Friday.
    • The room may be used for instruction, organizational meetings, presentations, presentation rehearsal, lectures or other similar events on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • For Maymester and Summer Sessions
    • Effective June 1, 2011, a professor, department or organization may request the room up to 5 times or 10 hours per semester, per class or particular time slot, between 8-5 Monday-Friday.

The Presentation Room

Presentation Room

The Presentation Room is smaller presentation space, available for University faculty, staff and students. Specifically designed for presenters, the room is frequently used for organizational meetings, interviews, dissertation defenses, by students practicing class presentations as well as actual class meetings. Since this room does not have computers the arrangement of the room can be configured to meet the needs of the group. The Presentation Room features a teacher station equipped with a networked computer and a projection unit. The room is also equipped with video and DVD capability. The presentation room can seat up to 40 individuals.

The Templeton Music Museum Conference Room

Templeton Music Museum Conference Room

The Templeton Music Museum Conference Room provides space for selective meetings and functions. Although the Room is intended primarily for use by groups affiliated with the University, it is not available as a regularly scheduled classroom. Use by groups external to the University will also be considered. Functions will be approved on an availability and priority basis. The conference room is equipped with an overhead projector, data projector and screen, and comfortably seats 40 individuals. Limited food and beverage service is allowed in this room but requires prior approval. For more information, call Lyle Tate at (662) 325-2559. The room is available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. year-round.

The John Grisham Room

John Grisham Room

The John Grisham Room provides a place where individuals from campus and from the Starkville community may view materials and memorabilia directly related to the writings and achievements of John Grisham. Seminars, receptions, lectures, and other functions related to teaching, research, and service can be scheduled in the Grisham Room. The Grisham Room can accommodate 75 people for a seated function and 150 for a standing function. The room comes with projector, laptop and screen setup capabilities. A podium, tables and chairs are also available for lecture functions. Setup for The Grisham Room is restricted to only a couple of options. A setup fee may be imposed. A conference room located inside the John Grisham Room provides seating for 12. The room is available for use from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
