Joe D. Seger has been an active member of the American Schools of Oriental Research for more than 30 years. He served as a Trustee of the affiliated W.F. Albright Institute from 1975 and was President of the Ablright Institute Board from 1988-1994. He has been a member of the ASOR Board of Trustees since 1987. Before being elected President of ASOR he served as Vice President for Archaeological Policy. Seger has published eight books and more than 100 reports, articles and reviews on biblical studies, archaeology and Near Eastern history. He has directed major American excavation projects at the biblical sites of Shechem (Tell Balatah) in Jordan (now in the Palestinian West Bank) and at Gezer in Israel. Since 1976 he has been Director of the Lahav Research Project excavations at Tell Halif, near Kibbutz Lahav in Israel. This project cam under sponsorship of the Cobb Institute and MSU in 1983.
