Dr. John E. Forde, APR, Fellow PRSA, has been teaching at Mississippi State University in the Department of Communication since 1987. John became head of the department in 2004, and he continues to teach Principles of Public Relations, both in person and online. The department of approximately 550 majors and 27 full-time faculty includes concentration areas of public relations, broadcasting, journalism, theatre, and communication studies. The department also serves hundreds of other students in partnership majors and minors. Before being named department head, he was coordinator of the public relations concentration and coordinator of the internship program in the department since his arrival.

He has been very involved as an officer in numerous public relations and community organizations. In 1997, he served as president of the four-state Southern Public Relations Federation and received the organization's Professional Achievement Award in 1999. He also was named previously as the Public Relations Association of Mississippi's State Practitioner of the Year. In 2009, he was honored with induction into the University of Southern Mississippi School of Mass Communication and Journalism Hall of Fame. In 2010, he was inducted into the Public Relations Society of America College of Fellows, becoming the only member in Mississippi at the time. Along with his wife, Connie, they were honored in 2012 as the Jones County Junior College Honor Alumni.

In 2001, John received the National Academic Advising Association Outstanding Academic Advisor Award. At MSU, John has been presented with a John Grisham Faculty Excellence Award and received the University's Outstanding Academic Advisor Award.

He represented the Southern Public Relations Federation on the Universal Accreditation Board, a national board of eight organizations from 2007-2012, and he currently represents the Public Relations Society on the UAB. He co-chaired the board in 2011.

He earned degrees from Jones County Junior College and Mississippi State University and graduate degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi. Prior to returning to MSU to teach, he was director of public relations at William Carey College (now University) in Hattiesburg.

His wife, Connie, is the department head at MSU for the Department of Instructional Systems and Workforce Development. They have two sons, John David, 26, and Daniel, 23. J.D. completed culinary school in Texas and is pursing a position on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and Daniel is a senior majoring in marketing at MSU. J.D. is married to Sofia since 2013, and she is also a chef.
