The Survival Skills for Graduate Students is a series of resources and workshops designed to assist graduate students in their classes and research at the Mississippi State University Libraries. Developed by the Library Instructional Services Department, this online resource is used in the Survival Skills for Graduate Students Workshops and serves as a repository of both library and campus information for graduate students at Mississippi State University. Whether you're working on your dissertation or looking for a job, the resources below will be of interest!

Library Services

  • Research Consultations: One-on-one research assistance for graduate students. Everything from a general introduction to library resources to an in-depth assistance in developing a literature review may be covered.
  • Workshops: The MSU Libraries sponsor a number of workshops, ranging from basic library instruction to sessions on building multimedia presentations. All workshops are free of charge for graduate students!
  • Distance Education Services: ABD and off campus? See the resources and services available to distance students.
  • Inter-Library Loan (ILLiad): Borrow journal articles or books from other libraries! Registration required.
  • Ask a Librarian!: Whether it's by telephone, email or chat, the Ask-a-Librarian service provides research assistance and ready reference help. Whether it's gaining access to a database or advice on the best reference guide, the librarians at the Ask-a-Librarian service on on standy-by and ready to be of assistance.
  • Office of Thesis and Dissertation Format Review: Provides information on submitting theses and dissertations electronically.
