William G. "Bill" Simpson


The Bill Simpson collection contains a number of materials related to his time as a lobbyist, Congressional staffer, and Deputy White House Chief of Staff. The collection contains speeches from 1964-1968; Appointment books from 1982-2003; Correspondence from 1961-2004; Subject Files from 1962 to 2002; as well as various pieces of memorabilia, photographs, publications, news clippings, and programs.

William G. "Bill" Simspon, Jr. was born in Gulfport Mississippi in 1923. He was a for administrative assistant to Mississippi Senator James O. Eastland and a former Deputy White House Chief of Staff in the President Jimmy Carter White House. He attended the University of Mississippi and the U. S. Merchant Marine Academy and served in the Navy during World War II. He returned to Mississippi after the war where he owned a seafood company and served on the Mississippi Marine Conservation Commission. He died in Washington DC on November 20, 2003.
