James L. Martin is a Professor, Professional Engineer (PE), and the Kelly Gene Cook, Sr. Chair in Civil Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering. Dr. Martin, whose area of expertise is water quality modeling and environmental software development, joined Mississippi State from the Water Quality and Contaminant Modeling Branch, Environmental Laboratory, Corps of Engineers Engineer Research and Development Center, Waterways Experiment Station (WES), Vicksburg, Mississippi. Previous to WES, he served as vice president and director of engineering with AScI Corporation, an international environmental firm headquartered in McLean, Virginia, and as an Environmental Scientist with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Large Lakes Research Station, Grosse Ile, Michigan.
Dr. Martin received B.S. degrees in Wildlife Science and Civil Engineering from Texas A & M University, an M.S. in Biology/Marine Biology from Southwest Texas State University and Ph.D. in Civil/Environmental Engineering from Texas A & M. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Mississippi, a Diplomate of the American Academy of Water Resource Engineers and a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Enginners.
Dr. Martin has over 20 years of experience in conducting and managing water quality modeling projects. He has authored/co-authored over 50 technical reports and publications, including EPA guidance documents and model user documentation. He has been involved in the development of a number of hydrodynamic and water quality models in common usage.
