Scope and Contents

Andrew Jackson, Hermitage, Nashville, Tenn., to Major William Berkeley Lewis, February 28, 1845 (photocopy). Refers to incoming president James Polk, the election, and the appointment of the new Secretary of State, suggesting James Buchanan would do a good job. He refers back to the "intrigue" surrounding Henry Clay's appointment to that office by John Quincy Adams 20 years earlier following the election Jackson lost to Adams.
